Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the CLE, a versatile offering set to replace the two-door iterations of both the C-Class and the E-Class. Available in coupe and convertible variants, this new nameplate effectively bridges the pricing and performance gap left by its predecessors.
Upon its debut, the coupe lineup will feature two models: the CLE 300 and the CLE 450. Here's a breakdown of the pricing:
- 2024 CLE 300 4Matic: $57,650
- 2024 CLE 300 Pinnacle 4Matic: $60,250
- 2024 CLE 450 4Matic: $66,800
- 2024 CLE 450 Pinnacle 4Matic: $69,400
These prices include a $1,150 destination charge. For context, the 2023 C300 Coupe started at $50,700, while the 2023 E450 Coupe began at $70,900, both inclusive of the same destination charge as the CLE.
Essentially, the CLE offers consumers the choice between C-Class repair accessibility and E-Class luxury, as well as the option of C-Class-like or E-Class-like power. The CLE 300 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Stepping up to the CLE 450 brings a 3.0-liter straight-six turbocharged engine delivering 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and incorporate a mild-hybrid system.
Notably, the C300 also featured a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with similar power output, while the E450 utilized a 3.0-liter straight-six engine. However, both previous models came standard with rear-wheel drive.
Regardless of engine configuration, the CLE 300 comes generously equipped with features such as a Burmester surround-sound system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 11.9-inch touchscreen for the third-generation MBUX infotainment system. Opting for the Pinnacle trim adds even more amenities, including a head-up display, surround-view camera, and augmented-reality navigation.
Available options include the Night Package, various wheel designs, and four Manufaktur colors, though pricing for these has yet to be disclosed.
Mercedes-Benz dealers nationwide will begin receiving both iterations of the CLE in the first quarter of 2024. Looking ahead, the lineup is set to expand with the introduction of an AMG-tuned CLE 53 4Matic+ and the CLE Cabriolet.
