Environment and economy

The Fiat Doblò will be launched with four engines with 5 or 6 speed gearboxes, all designed and made by FPT - Fiat Powertrain Technologies:

1.3 Multijet II 16v - 90 HP (Euro 4);
1.6 Multijet 16v - 105 HP (Euro 5);
2.0 Multijet 16v - 135 HP (Euro 5);
1.4 16v - 95 HP (Euro 5).

Furthermore, all engines of the new Fiat are fitted with the Start&Stop and a DPF anti-particulate filter (diesel engines only) as standard. The Start&Stop system temporarily stops the engine when stopped (e.g. at traffic lights) and then restarts it.

The Fiat Doblò is yet another step forward in sustainable transport by Fiat, once more ahead of the EEC regulation requiring new cars to comply with Euro 5 specifications only from 1 January 2011.

A Natural Power fitted with the new 1.4 16v - 115 HP dual fuel (petrol/methane) engine and a new diesel with robotized Dualogic gearbox will be available soon. Staying on the environmental theme, the new Fiat Doblò is fitted with an innovative feature, called eco:Drive. Using the USB port, this software program analyses driving style and helps cut fuel consumption and emissions.

1.3 Multijet 16v - 90 HP (Euro 4)

Developed and made by FPT - Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the 1.3 Multijet II - 90 HP belongs to the second generation of Multijet engines. These engines incorporate new common rail injectors with a balanced hydraulic servo-valve to more accurately control the amount of fuel injected into the combustion chamber, faster and more flexibly than in the past. This means more accurate combustion with benefits for consumption, emissions, NVH and driveability.

The new Common Rail injector implements IRS (Injection Rate Shaping) for modulating the fuel injection rate. This strategy allows fuel saving and reduced CO2 on a standard cycle by approximately 2%, with a NOx reduction of up to 30%.

Second generation Multijet engines are the most modern evolution of Common Rail technology. After the JTD (1997) and first generation Multijet (2003), the Multijet II secures yet another engineering triumph for Fiat Group Automobiles, anticipating future standards.

The Fiat Doblò's new 1.3 Multijet II - 90 HP is fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger for very wide usage range: with respect to its predecessor, the maximum torque of 200 Nm (+ 25%) is delivered at only 1500 rpm to ensure rapid pickup. The result is top-in-class fuel saving: only 4.9 litres for 100 km in combined cycle and a CO2 emission level of only 129 g/km. At the same time, the performance of the new Fiat Doblò engine is excellent: 156 km/h top speed and 15 seconds from 0 to100 km/h.

1.6 Multijet - 105 HP (Euro 5)

Compared to the tried and tested 1.9 JTDM 120 HP, the 1.6 Multijet is a significant step forward with improved performance, comfort, emissions and running costs in addition to considerable benefits: torque is higher by nearly 25% with equal power (1500 rpm). All this comes with much improved driveability, due above all to useful torque values delivered at low engine speeds. These aims were achieved by totally optimising combustion, which exploits the potential of the new injectors to the full.

Fitted with an electronically-controlled fixed geometry turbocharger, the 1.6 Multijet delivers an excellent absolute torque, which is even more appreciable considering the capacity of the engine: 290 Nm puts it right at the top of the performance charts for engines of 1.8 litres and smaller. If we then consider specific torque (i.e. divided by the cubic capacity) the 1.6 is the highest performing engine in the 200 HP category, with the sole exception of "supersport" engines. That is not all. Considering that the maximum torque (290 Nm) is delivered at just 1500 rpm, the revolutionary nature of the 1.6 Multijet with respect to present-day diesel engines is even more obvious: no other - not even a next-gen engine - can deliver such high torque with such low revs. With this equipment, the new Fiat Doblò has low CO2 emissions and fuel consumption (138 g/km and 5.2 litres/100 km on the combined cycle, respectively), top speed of 164 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds.

Furthermore, the 1.6 Multijet needs less frequent servicing. As a result of the high quality level and the efforts spent on each component to further improve strength and efficiency, the 1.6 Multijet only needs one service every 35,000 km for perfect engine and vehicle efficiency. The results in terms of running cost reductions are evident: for example, this means one service less for distances of 90,000 km or 100,000 km, or a saving of scheduled servicing costs of 25%.

Finally, with an eye to environmental friendliness, the engine is Euro 5 approved and equipped with DPF and Start&Stop as standard. Furthermore, 1.6 Multijet - 105 HP implements state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment technologies, such as a Close Coupled Diesel Particulate Filter and a built-in EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system to improve control of gas temperature and flow while guaranteeing lower emissions and reduced fuel consumption at the same time.

2.0 Multijet - 135 HP (Euro 5)

The 2.0 Multijet - 135 HP Euro 5 is the natural evolution of the tried and tested 1.9 Multijet - 120 HP from the point of view of performance (power +12% and torque +45% at 1500 rpm) and pollutant emissions (it is Euro 5 directive compliant). In particular, with a maximum torque of 320 Nm, it is best-in-class. These features translate into an outstanding driving experience and excellent performance (top speed of 179 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds) with limited fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: 5.7 litres/100 km and 150 g/km on the combined cycle.

Various technical interventions were implemented on the engine to increase performance, engine torque at low speeds and reduce noise and vibrations. The 2.0 Multijet - 135 HP is supercharged by an electronically-controlled fixed geometry turbocharger which improves power and delivers high torque even at low engine speeds.

Furthermore, the emission control system includes an electrically-activated EGR valve, managed directly by the engine management system, the use of an exhaust gas recirculation cooling system and the same close coupled catalytic converter as the 1.6. Finally, the reliability of the 2.0 Multijet - 135 HP is the result of many specific tests carried out on the engine and on the single components throughout development.

1.4 16v - 95 HP (Euro 5)

Euro 5 compliant with low fuel consumption, the 1.4 16v - 95 HP engine is the ideal solution for urban use. The torque curve is very gradual from 1500 to 4000 rpm making it extremely flexible, for pleasantly smooth running and low fuel consumption (7.2 l/100 km on the mixed cycle).
